The Knights are facing an injury crisis while Souths have lost superstar Latrell Mitchell (hamstring) for eight weeks.
Tigers coach Michael Maguire has a big decision to make on Jackson Hastings, while Anthony Griffin looks set to recall his young guns.
Broncos prop Payne Haas could be handed a one-game suspension and Junior Paulo will also likely miss some football.
Bulldogs halfback Kyle Flanagan looks to have done enough to hold his spot and Jarrod Croker could play his first game of the year for the Raiders.
Read on for our Team Tips for Round 6.
Canberra Raiders vs North Queensland Cowboys 7.50pm at GIO Stadium
Last week’s Raiders team: 1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 2. Nick Cotric 3. Matthew Timoko 4. Semi Valemei 5. Jordan Rapana 6. Jack Wighton 7. Brad Schneider 8. Josh Papali’i 9. Tom Starling 10. Joseph Tapine 19. Ryan Sutton 12. Corey Harawira-Naera 13. Elliott Whitehead 14. Matt Frawley 15. Emre Guler 16. Adam Elliott 17. Corey Horsburgh
Team Tips: Ricky Stuart may call on veteran centre Jarrod Croker after Matthew Timoko suffered a back injury in last week’s loss. Timoko did not return to the field after half time, with Stuart saying after the game that he was “not real well.” Croker told Fox League after his New South Wales Cup game that his body felt good and was ready for a call-up whenever he’s needed. Hudson Young was a late scratching from last week’s 17 due to a toe injury and could be a chance of returning, but it will depend on how much training he can get under his belt.
Last week’s Cowboys team: 1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Kyle Feldt 3. Valentine Holmes 4. Peta Hiku 5. Murray Taulagi 6. Tom Dearden 7. Chad Townsend 8. Jordan McLean 9. Reece Robson 16. Reuben Cotter 11. Tom Gilbert 12. Jeremiah Nanai 13. Jason Taumalolo 10. Jamayne Taunoa-Brown 14. Jake Granville 15. Heilum Luki 17. Griffin Neame
Team Tips:Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow could push for a return this week from a knee injury which would see Scott Drinkwater drop out of the side unless coach Todd Payten reshuffles his backline to keep him at fullback — or find room for him on the bench. Drinkwater was a standout for the Cowboys with a try, try assist, linebreak, seven tackle busts and 176 running metres.
South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 4pm at Accor Stadium
Last week’s Rabbitohs team: 1. Latrell Mitchell 2. Alex Johnston 3. Taane Milne 4. Campbell Graham 5. Josh Mansour 6. Cody Walker 7. Lachlan Ilias 8. Tevita Tatola 9. Damien Cook 10. Thomas Burgess 11. Keaon Koloamatangi 12. Jai Arrow 13. Cameron Murray 14. Blake Taaffe 15. Jacob Host 16. Davvy Moale 17. Liam Knight
Team Tips: Superstar fullback Latrell Mitchell left the field early last week with a hamstring injury and is facing eight weeks on the sideline. Blake Taaffe — who filled in last week — is the obvious replacement. Josh Mansour should keep his spot after being brought into to the 17 last week, while Davvy Moaele was also solid and should stay on the bench. Siliva Havili was impressive in New South Wales Cup though and could put pressure on coach Jason Demetriou to recall him.
Last week’s Bulldogs team: 1. Matt Dufty 2. Brent Naden 3. Braidon Burns 4. Jake Averillo 5. Josh Addo-Carr 6. Matt Burton 7. Kyle Flanagan 8. Luke Thompson 9. Jeremy Marshall-King 10. Paul Vaughan 11. Corey Waddell 12. Tevita Pangai Junior 13. Josh Jackson 14. Brandon Wakeham 16. Max King 17. Joe Stimson 23. Ava Seumanufagai
Team Tips: Coach Trent Barrett is likely to stick solid with Kyle Flanagan after saying he was impressed with the halfback’s performance. Matt Dufty’s spot will be scrutinised after a hugely disappointing performance against the Panthers. Corey Allan is an option after playing fullback in his return from a hamstring injury via NSW Cup, but it’s unlikely Barrett will swing the axe just yet. Flanagan’s addition to the 17 meant Brandon Wakeham moved to the bench, however given he only played seven minutes he may be left out all together this week.
Penrith Panthers vs Brisbane Broncos 7.55pm at BlueBet stadium
Last week’s Panthers team: 1. Dylan Edwards 2. Charlie Staines 3. Izack Tago 4. Stephen Crichton 5. Taylan May 6. Jarome Luai 7. Nathan Cleary 8. Matt Eisenhuth 9. Apisai Koroisau 10. James Fisher-Harris 11. Viliame Kikau 12. Liam Martin 13. Isaah Yeo 14. Mitch Kenny 15. Scott Sorensen 16. Spencer Leniu 17. Jaeman Salmon
Team Tips: The unbeaten Panthers who thrashed the Dogs last week should remain 1-17 against the Broncos.
Last week’s Broncos team: 1. Tesi Niu 2. Corey Oates 3. Kotoni Staggs 4. Herbie Farnworth 5. Selwyn Cobbo 6. Billy Walters 7. Adam Reynolds 8. Keenan Palasia 9. Jake Turpin 10. Payne Haas 11. Kurt Capewell 12. Jordan Riki 13. Kobe Hetherington 14. Ryan James 15. Corey Jensen 16. TC Robati 17. Cory Paix
Team Tips: There’s still a potential suspension hanging over Payne Haas’ head so it’s unclear at this stage if the star prop will be available. The NRL’s integrity unit is expected to come to a decision on the bust-up with Albert Kelly this week and it’s been reported that the duo will cop one-game suspensions. Billy Walters looks certain to retain the No.6 jersey after impressing last week, while his halves partner Adam Reynolds picked up a knee injury early in the game but played on. Coach Kevin Walters declared after the game that the skipper will play this week. Corey Oates also picked up a leg injury late in the game but Walters said he “seemed ok… just a little ginger on it.”
Manly Sea Eagles vs Gold Coast Titans 5.30pm at 4 Pines Park
Last week’s Sea Eagles team: 5. Reuben Garrick 2. Jason Saab 20. Brad Parker 4. Morgan Harper 3. Christian Tuipulotu 6. Kieran Foran 7. Daly Cherry-Evans 8. Josh Aloiai 9. Lachlan Croker 10. Martin Taupau 11. Haumole Olakau’atu 12. Andrew Davey 13. Jake Trbojevic 14. Dylan Walker 15. Karl Lawton 16. Sean Keppie 17. Taniela Paseka
Team Tips: There’s question marks over Matin Taupau’s fitness after he left the field in the first half of last week’s win with a shoulder/neck injury and didn’t return. Coach Des Hasler said he’ll “give him every chance to play” so expect the star prop to be named but a call won’t be made until Friday’s captain’s run. Josh Schuster (ankle) is out of rehab and is expected to return in the coming weeks. Reuben Garrick was solid at fullback and will likely keep Tolu Koula out of the side despite the youngster getting named at No.1 last week before succumbing to an injury.
Last week’s Titans team: 1. Jamayne Isaako 2. Corey Thompson 3. Phillip Sami 4. Patrick Herbert 5. Greg Marzhew 6. AJ Brimson 7. Toby Sexton 8. Moeaki Fotuaika 9. Erin Clark 10. Isaac Liu 11. David Fifita 12. Beau Fermor 13. Tino Fa’asuamaleaui 14. Will Smith 15. Jarrod Wallace 16. Jaimin Jolliffe 17. Kevin Proctor
Team Tips: Jayden Campbell (ribs) should return at fullback in place of Jamayne Isaako.
Melbourne Storm vs Cronulla Sharks 7.35pm at AAMI Park
Last week’s Storm team: 1. Ryan Papenhuyzen 2. Nick Meaney 3. Reimis Smith 4. Justin Olam 5. Xavier Coates 6. Cameron Munster 7. Jahrome Hughes 8. Jesse Bromwich 9. Harry Grant 10. Nelson Asofa-Solomona 11. Felise Kaufusi 12. Kenny Bromwich 13. Josh King 14. Brandon Smith 15. Alec MacDonald 16. Trent Loiero 17. Tepai Moeroa
Team Tips: The Storm juggernaut just keeps building, week on week, year on year, decade on decade. No changes expected to the side that thrashed the Dogs.
Last week’s Sharks team: 1. Will Kennedy 2. Sione Katoa 3. Jesse Ramien 4. Siosifa Talakai 5. Ronaldo Mulitalo 6. Matt Moylan 7. Nicho Hynes 8. Toby Rudolf 9. Blayke Brailey 10. Braden Hamlin-Uele 11. Briton Nikora 12. Teig Wilton 13. Dale Finucane 15. Cameron McInnes 17. Andrew Fifita 18. Jack Williams 21. Royce Hunt
Team Tips: The Sharks are flying and Aiden Tolman (Covid) is the only player in line for a return, he should replace big Royce Hunt on the bench.
Sydney Roosters vs Warriors 2pm at SCG
Last week’s Roosters team: 1. James Tedesco 2. Daniel Tupou 3. Paul Momirovski 4. Joseph Manu 5. Kevin Naiqama 6. Sam Walker 7. Luke Keary 8. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves 14. Drew Hutchison 17. Lindsay Collins 11. Nat Butcher 12. Sitili Tupouniua 13. Victor Radley 9. Connor Watson 15. Daniel Suluka-Fifita 16. Angus Crichton 24. Fletcher Baker
Team Tips: Sam Verrills (thumb) should return at hooker with Drew Hutchison dropping out of the side. Sio Siua Taukeiaho was a late scratching against Brisbane but is expected return to front row in place of Lindsay Collins.Nat Butcher (concussion) will be monitored throughout the week.
Last week’s Warriors team: 1. Reece Walsh 2. Edward Kosi 3. Jesse Arthars 4. Adam Pompey 5. Marcelo Montoya 6. Chanel Harris-Tavita 7. Shaun Johnson 20. Addin Fonua-Blake 9. Wayde Egan 10. Matt Lodge 11. Euan Aitken 12. Bayley Sironen 13. Josh Curran 8. Bunty Afoa 14. Kodi Nikorima 16. Aaron Pene 17. Jack Murchie
Team Tips:Marcelo Montoya faces suspension after being referred straight to the judiciary for using a homophobic slur against the Cowboys. Chanel Harris-Tavita copped a cut against the Cowboys but should be right to play.
St George Illawarra Dragons vs Newcastle Knights 4.05pm at WIN Stadium
Last week’s Dragons team: 1. Moses Mbye 2. Mathew Feagai 3. Moses Suli 4. Zac Lomax 5. Mikaele Ravalawa 6. Jack Bird 7. Ben Hunt 8. Francis Molo 9. Andrew McCullough 10. Aaron Woods 11. Tariq Sims 12. Jaydn Su’A 13. Jack de Belin 14. Talatau Amone 15. Josh Kerr 16. Blake Lawrie 17. Jackson Ford
Team Tips: Anthony Griffin’s fortnight of experimenting with his spine should end this week following losses to the Eels and Rabbitohs. Fullback Tyrell Sloan and five-eighth Talatau Amone should come back into the starting lineup against Newcastle. “We will have a look at it, but for Tyrell it is a development for him. We had a couple play pretty well in the twos today so we will have a look,” Griffin said. Josh McGuire (suspension) and Tyrell Fuimaono (suspension) are available but if the starting side reshuffles there might not be room for both.
Last week’s Knights team: 1. Kalyn Ponga 2. Dominic Young 3. Dane Gagai 4. Bradman Best 5. Enari Tuala 6. Jake Clifford 7. Adam Clune 8. Jacob Saifiti 9. Chris Randall 10. Daniel Saifiti 11. Tyson Frizell 12. Brodie Jones 13. Kurt Mann 14. Phoenix Crossland 15. Sauaso Sue 16. Leo Thompson 17. Jirah Momoisea
Team Tips: Former Origin winger Edrick Lee could play his first game in 18 months to help cover a $3 million injury crisis. The Knights casualty ward has ballooned to nine players with Adam Clune in doubt to face the Dragons. Clune injured his knee against the Sea Eagles last week but the halfback will delay surgery and attempt play through the pain. Phoenix Crossland will partner Jake Clifford if Clune is ruled out. Adding to the Knights woes is an anticipated extended stint on the sideline for winger Dominic Young (knee) and Jirah Momoisea (elbow). The duo are awaiting scan results and could be out for at least a month.
Young’s omission against the Dragons will catapult Lee into the frame for his first game since October, 2020. Tyson Frizell (ankle) could be unavailable alongside Jayden Brailey (Achilles), David Klemmer (knee), Lachlan Fitzgibbon (knee), Mitch Barnett (suspension) and Bailey Hodgson (elbow).
Parramatta Eels vs Wests Tigers 4pm at CommBank Stadium
Last week’s Eels team: 1. Clinton Gutherson 2. Waqa Blake 3. Viliami Penisini 4. Tom Opacic 5. Bailey Simonsson 6. Dylan Brown 7. Mitchell Moses 8. Reagan Campbell-Gillard 9. Reed Mahoney 10. Junior Paulo 15. Ryan Matterson 12. Isaiah Papali’i 13. Nathan Brown 14. Makahesi Makatoa 18. Bryce Cartwright 16. Oregon Kaufusi 17. Mitch Rein
Team Tips: Junior Paulo (suspension) is facing at one game out unless he fights his careless high tackle charge and wins. Oregon Kaufusi will likely start at prop if Paulo is banned. Waqa Blake (knee) will be monitored.
Last week’s Tigers team: 18. Starford To’a 2. David Nofoaluma 16. Luke Garner 4. Oliver Gildart 5. Ken Maumalo 6. Jock Madden 7. Luke Brooks 8. James Tamou 9. Jacob Liddle 10. Zane Musgrove 11. Kelma Tuilagi 12. Luciano Leilua 13. Joe Ofahengaue 14. Tyrone Peachey 15. Alex Twal 17. Alex Seyfarth 20. Thomas Mikaele
Team Tips: Jackson Hastings (suspension) returns but it might not be in the halves, with coach Michael Maguire admitting he’s undecided whether to drop young No. 6 Jock Madden. Hastings could play lock or hooker. Daine Laurie (Covid) will return at fullback and likely push Starford To’a to the centres with Luke Garner moving to the bench.
