The Cowboys have put in an early season entry for the worst captain’s challenge of the year in their clash against the Raiders.
Ricky Stuart’s side came out running, scoring two tries before again working their way down the field, earning a penalty for a strip in a tackle on Joseph Tapine.
Fox League commentator Greg Alexander blasted Cowboys utility Reuben Cotter for blatantly flicking the ball from Tapine’s grasp, then was shocked to see the referee signal for a captain’s challenge.

“It’s 12-0, they have just given away their fifth penalty, that is headless sort of stuff there from Reuben Cotter,” Alexander said.
“Did he just flick that out from his hand, they are going to challenge it.”
Vision clearly showed the ball was knocked out by Cotter and commentator Warren Smith made a big claim.
“I thought I saw the worst challenge ever last week, that is the worst of all time,” Voss said.
“That is horrendous.”

“That is the gold medal… how would Reuben Cotter convince anyone that he didn’t do anything?” Alexander asked.
The Raiders scored two tries within the first 15 minutes at GIO Stadium, beginning with a bizarre moment which saw hooker Tom Starling cross untouched.
The 23-year-old took the ball from dummy-half, flirting across the line before slicing between Cowboys forwards Jason Taumalolo and Coen Hess.
