Cowboys young gun Jeremiah Nanai has repaid his team with an aerial try after being sent off for a lifting tackle on Titans veteran Jarrod Wallace.

The 19-year-old went from zero to hero, entering the field on the second tackle of a crucial set with 17 minutes remaining, as the score sat 16-4 to the Cowboys.

On the fifth tackle, Tom Dearden swung the ball back across to the right allowing halfback Chad Townsend to put a pinpoint kick up for Nanai to rise high and grab, scoring only 40 seconds after returning to the field.

“10 minutes in the bin to think about it, and returns with that kind of try, try number seven for the kid in game number 11,” Fox League commentator Brenton Speed said.

“What better way to repay your team after sitting 10 minutes on the bench,” Fox League’s Corey Parker said.

“He comes out to this right hand side, we have seen what he can do, what an athlete.

“Nobody goes up for the contest, Jamayne Isaako just watches it, terrific little kick.

“Nanai, he is the only man up, there is four Titans players in the vicinity, Jeremiah Nanai is the only man that goes up… what an athlete, he has come up with some big plays for his team.”

In only 11 career appearances, Nanai has now scored seven tries from the Cowboys backrow.

Against the Titans, Nanai gave away two penalties and made two errors, having a quiet start to the game before erupting for an important try.

Fullback Scott Drinkwater spoke glowingly of young gun’s Nanai and Heilum Luki after his side’s 30-4 win.

“Jeremiah is only 19 and he is playing 80 minutes every week, nothing really phases the kid,” Drinkwater said.

“Whether he makes a couple of errors or penalties, he turns up next set doing his thing.

“They are just really athletic, big fellas and local boys so I hope the Cowboys keep them for a long time because they are a special part of this team.”
