Kalyn Ponga will play his first game after signing a multimillion-dollar extension when the Knights host the Eels on Sunday.

Ponga played his best game of the season last week and it was topped off by not only taking up the options in his contract for 2023 and 2024 but also inking an extension that will keep him in the Hunter until the end of 2027.

The superstar’s signature could be just what the Knights need to inspire a victory after losing their last four games.

But it won’t be an easy feat given the Eels are coming off a shock one-point loss to the Tigers.

Newcastle welcome back halfback Adam Clune from a knee injury, while star prop Junior Paulo returns for the Eels.

Marata Niukore will sit out due to leg tightness forcing coach Parramatta Brad Arthur to reshuffle his already depleted backline once again. Will Penisini will shift into the centres and Hayze Perham will start on the wing.

Reagan Campbell-Gillard has been named despite leaving the field early last week with an ankle injury, while Jakob Arthur replaces Mitch Rein on the bench.
