Tom Trbojevic should consider switching to the centres in a bid to overcome a brutal injury toll.

That’s the opinion of the Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield after it was confirmed by the Sea Eagles that Trbojevic will undergo surgery this week on his injured shoulder.

The Manly superstar was all but ruled out for the season after suffering the injury during the Sea Eagles’ loss to the Eels in Round 11. Trbojevic looked visibly distressed as he was helped from the field in a sling.

NRL360 host Braith Anasta asked the panel on Monday whether Manly should be concerned about Trobjevic’s long-term future.

“He’s been injured so much,” Anasta said.

“Is it a worry, is there a concern for his longevity in the game?” he asked.

Fox League’s James Hooper then outlined the lengthy list of injuries the champion fullback has sustained in recent seasons.

“You can never write a champion off… he’s torn his hamstrings five times, subluxed shoulder, torn pec, he had minor knee surgery only a matter of weeks ago.

“So it’s definitely a concern but knowing how diligent he is — he gave up booze last season for the whole year and look at the results he got and he did the same again this season.

“If there’s a bloke you wouldn’t write off and is an out and out champion it’s Tommy Turbo.

Phil Rothfield then suggested a shock positional switch could be on the cards.

“Manly have a great sports science crew but we had a bit of a laugh about it when (Paul Kent) suggested earlier in the year a switch to the centres which is going to be easier on his legs, easier on his hamstrings,” Rothfield said.

“I’m sure that’s something Manly will need to consider. They have got to get some mileage out of him

“We need him back in the game, not just Manly. It’s really disappointing.
