Rabbitohs star Latrell Mitchell is targeting a return to the Origin arena in game two after a two-week stint in the US to treat an injured hamstring.

Mitchell flew to Los Angeles to work with specialist Bill Knowles, hoping for a long-term fix to repair a tendon tear in his left hamstring, arriving back in Sydney on Thursday morning.

The barnstorming fullback could return to the NRL as soon as next Friday when his side take on the Titans.

“We’ll see how we go. I’ll get back to the team, train with them and see how we go,” Mitchell said to the SMH.

“I can’t wait to get back to the boys and start training. Obviously we’ve got the bye this week and Origin, so good luck to those fellas, but I’m keen to get back in a team environment.”

Knowles has in the past worked with Tigers Woods, NFL legend Peyton Manning and Baseball cult-hero Alex Rodriguez.

“He’s worked with the best, (Knowles’ record) speaks for itself,” Mitchell said. “Bill’s a great bloke and he was awesome to work with over the last two weeks. He made it easy being away from home,” Mitchell said.

“It was a bit different but it’s just something I can hold onto for the rest of my career I think. I’m pretty excited to see where it goes.”

In one video posted by Mitchell of his training he is seen twirling hula hoops while balancing on a bosu ball, saying “I’m a circus freak now”.

Knowles is said to have charged just under $10,000 for the two-week rehab training, a fee Brad Fittler will be hoping can get one of his star men right for June 26.

If Mitchell doesn’t return in time for Round 14, he will still be able to get time on the field against the Dragons in Round 15 before the Sunday game in Perth.
