The Cowboys and Broncos Queensland derby has been hailed the clash of the best “buys of the year”.

Adam Reynolds joined the Red Hill club in 2022 and has completely turned the Broncos’ fortunes around, while Chad Townsend has taken a band of young and talented players and sparked a North Queensland resurgence.

In Round 16 the pair will again face-off following the Cowboys huge 38-12 win only three rounds in to the 2022 season.

“It is nearly buy of the year versus buy of the year, Adam Reynolds vs Chad Townsend,” The Daily Telegraph’s Buzz Rothfield said on NRL360.

“The contribution they have both made on and off the field both of them.

“Townsend with that very young squad and he has rallied them, and you talk about Reynolds, he marched into the Broncos headquarters three weeks ahead of schedule during the off-season to start this journey and he has done sensational.”

Question marks have surrounded Adam Reynolds after the Rabbitohs only offered him a one-year deal due to concerns surrounding his longevity as a player.

This season the 31-year-old has suffered a number of injuries, but his impact stretches further than just on-field performances.

“The king of Brisbane, he has been so good for them so far this season,” NRL360 host Braith Anasta said.

“A lot of people questioning the amount of injuries this year, but does it really matter.

“The impact he has had on the young guys and the rest of the guys off the field has been significant.”

“You have seen his impact even when he isn’t on the field, he has got them playing a system that benefits the team,” NRL360 co-host Paul Kent said.

“There is no doubt of his input into that, I know a lot of it goes down to coaching but there is no doubt the amount of help he is giving Kevvie Walters as far as setting up their game plan, how they are going to play.”

“The fact is he has been able to get the players to buy in and to understand the system they should be implementing even when he isn’t on the field.

“That is a really big sign of a player.”
