Cowboys prop Jordan McLean’s Blues selection has cast doubt on Eels enforcer Reagan Campbell-Gillard’s future Origin prospects.

The Parramatta prop’s axing was one of seven changes in Brad Fittler’s huge Game II shake-up, which ultimately led to a 44-12 NSW win.

Now, following Payne Haas’ omission from the team due to a shoulder injury, North Queensland veteran Jordan McLean will start in the Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium.

The Daily Telegraph’s Buzz Rothfield believes Campbell-Gillard should have been recalled into the Blues team.

“Jordan McLean in the front row ahead of Reagan Campbell-Gillard, who I didn’t think was our worst player in Game I,” Rothfield said.

“Clearly his cards are marked,” NRL360 co-host Paul Kent said.

“Jordan McLean I don’t think has done a lot in the last few years but he has been strong in the last six weeks, but I probably would have gone Reagan Campbell-Gillard,” Rothfield said.

The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio went on to reveal there was doubts cast on his selection in Game I, but NSW selectors were chasing ‘big men’ to fill the front row.

“It does suggest though that RCG, may struggle to get back into the team if he couldn’t get into this game with Haas out,” NRL360 host Braith Anasta said.

“There were origin concerns for him to make the Origin Game I team, but he got there, but this is because there is a dearth of big men, they are lacking big front rowers outside of Payne Haas,” Riccio said.

“This is where Daniel Saifiti last year was so big for them, he wasn’t available this year, Payne Haas goes down, remember they drafted Jacob Saifiti into the extended squad.

“They were searching for a big man, this is where McLean has got the jump.”
