The incident occurred in the queue lines as devotees waited for Vaikunthadwara Sarvadarshan tokens. The situation escalated around 8 pm when Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials began issuing tokens at multiple centres, including Vishnu Nivasam, Srinivasam and Padmavati Park. The stampede took place at two locations when the gates were opened to allow an unwell devotee to exit the queue. Many devotees, who had been waiting since early morning, surged forward, causing severe overcrowding and chaos. Officials said inadequate crowd management measures contributed to the situation spiralling out of control.
