Channing Tatum was present at The Sundance Film Festival 2026, where his film ‘Josephine’ was anchoring the evening. In an interview with E! News, the 45-year-old actor reflected on his experience of being a father, and said, “Parenting is hard, and it changes day-to-day.” He added, “Sometimes you have to be the tough parent, and then other times, you need to be their soft buddy where you just love ’em, and that’s it.”

Another parenting dilemma is not being cool enough

Another dilemma Channing Tatum faces as a parent is not being ‘cool enough for his 12-year-old daughter. In a conversation with the above mentioned portal, last year, he said that even though his daughter has seen a lot of his movies, she remains “unimpressed.” He adds, “She’s like, ‘Whatever, I don’t wanna see those.’ She acts like she doesn’t care.”

‘Josephine’ makes Channing Tatum think about his own child

The day after the film’s premiere, Tatum told Variety that there are several scenes in the movie ‘Josephine’, where he thought about his own child, and it also made him think about the way he communicates with his own daughter. Tatum said, “I have a daughter, and it has made me look at myself and the way I parent and what the connection is and how I’m communicating things.”

Inspiration for Channing Tatum’s character in ‘Josephine’

Channing explained that his character in ‘Josephine’ was partially inspired by his real-life dad. The film star shared, “It’s a different character than I am in my life. I took a lot from my own dad in a way. I think (Damien, his character in the film) is a bit of a mix between myself and my dad.”‘Joesphine’ stars Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan as two parents who struggle to console their young daughter as she grapples with the aftermath of the traumatic event.
