Bruno Mars ends decade-long hiatus with 'The Romantic': Inside singer's first music venture since '24K Magic'

Bruno Mars, the self-proclaimed ‘Aura Lord’, aka ‘Lord of Aura’, has kept fans waiting nearly a decade for new solo music. His upcoming album ‘The Romantic’, set for a February 27, 2026, release, marks nearly a decade since ’24K Magic’ dropped in November 2016.Before he can treat fans to new music, all eyes will be on him as he joins K-Pop star Rose at the Grammy Awards on February 1, where their song, ‘APT’ is up for Song of the Year. The song will battle ‘Golden’, the wildly popular soundtrack from Netflix animated film ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ and Bad Bunny’s Caribbean-infused hit ‘DTMF’. A Grammy for either one would mark the first bilingual song to take the award for songwriting.

Bruno Mars ends hiatus

Mars has never rushed a release, but the shadow of ’24K Magic’ massive success loomed large. “Uptown Funk” sold 12 million copies, leaving him intimidated to top it. In a candid chat with Rolling Stone, he admitted that he tweaked tracks endlessly, fearing regret over half-baked ideas. This gap, from ’24K Magic’ to ‘The Romantic’, spans 9 years, 3 months, and 10 days, landing him among Grammy winners like Adele and Paul Simon with some of the longest wait times between album releases.

Bruno Mars’ top singles

Mars stayed busy without solo drops. He teamed with Anderson Paak as Silk Sonic, unleashing An Evening with Silk Sonic in 2021, packed with retro soul hits like ‘Leave the Door Open’. They even bowed out of Grammy submission to savour the moment. In 2024, Bruno featured on Billboard’s global No. 1 hit ‘APT’ with BLACKPINK singer Rose. The song emerged as a chartbuster and even won the Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards.Throughout 2025, Mars dominated the charts with collaborations like ‘Die With a Smile’, his duet with Lady Gaga. The song was one of the biggest singles of the year, finding a place in the Billboard Hot 100 for five non-consecutive weeks.

Bruno Mars announces new music

His recent social media posts like “My album is done,” only built the hype around his professional career. Taking to Instagram, he wrote, “New music this Friday. The Romantic coming 2.27,” announcing that the album will be released on February 27, 2026.
