IND vs ENG 5th Test: 'Tested courage and concentration' – Sachin Tendulkar lauds Yashasvi Jaiswal’s century, Akash Deep’s grit at The Oval
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akash Deep (X – Sachin Tendulkar)

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant century on a challenging pitch and nightwatchman Akash Deep added a gritty half-century as India strengthened their position on Day 3 of the final Test against England at The Oval. Jaiswal, who has been in sublime form this year, brought up his hundred in 127 balls with a mix of flair and composure. He eventually fell for 118, caught at deep third man while attempting an upper cut off Josh Tongue. His knock featured 14 boundaries and two sixes. At the time of his dismissal, India’s lead had swelled past 250. Earlier in the day, Akash Deep stunned England with his counter-attacking 66 off 94 balls. Promoted as nightwatchman, the pacer smashed boundaries with confidence, even bringing up his fifty with a powerful slog off Gus Atkinson. His 107-run partnership with Jaiswal frustrated a depleted English attack, which missed Chris Woakes due to a shoulder injury. The performances drew praise from cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who posted on X: “Outstanding 100 by Yashasvi on a sporting pitch that tested courage and concentration. Full marks to Akashdeep too, batting with heart and determination under pressure. Keep fighting, India.”
