Pete Davidson becomes dad for the first time, names daughter in tribute to 9/11 tragedy

Pete Davidson has entered a new chapter of his life. The comedian and actor has welcomed his first child with his girlfriend, model Elsie Hewitt, revealing a name that carries a direct and deeply personal connection to his family history and to September 11. The former Saturday Night Live star, 32, and Hewitt, 29, announced the birth on social media last week, sharing a small set of photos while keeping their daughter’s face hidden with a white heart emoji. Hewitt described the baby as her “best work yet,” writing: “I am absolutely overflowing with love and gratitude and disbelief.” Davidson added his own brief note beneath the post: “Wu Tang forever.” Alongside the announcement, the couple revealed their daughter’s name: Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson.

A name tied to 9/11

The choice of name is widely understood as a tribute to Davidson’s late father, Scott Matthew Davidson, who was killed during the September 11 attacks in 2001. Scott Davidson was a New York City firefighter who responded to the World Trade Center after the first plane struck and was inside the towers when the second hijacked plane hit. He was 33 years old.

Davidson was just seven at the time. He has spoken publicly over the years about the lasting impact of his father’s death and the circumstances surrounding that day. In a previous interview, he recalled that his father had promised to pick him up from school. “Dad says he’s going to pick you up, he doesn’t, so for life, I don’t believe anyone,” Davidson once said, describing how the loss shaped his trust issues growing up. The name Scottie drew an immediate response from fans, many of whom focused on its significance. One comment read: “Scottie after his dad!?!? This is the sweetest.” Another wrote: “I’m crying. Named after his Dad. Beautiful.” Davidson has been open about his connection to 9/11 throughout his career, often referencing his father in stand-up and interviews. The tribute places that history at the centre of his own family life as he becomes a parent.

A new family, on their own terms

Davidson and Hewitt confirmed the pregnancy in July with a characteristically blunt Instagram caption from Hewitt: “Welp now everyone knows we had sex,” posted alongside photos of the couple and a scan image. Earlier this month, Davidson told People that they had deliberately avoided what he called “weird Hollywood” baby names. “For a while, we were like, should we do that weird Hollywood thing where it’s like a colour or something?” he said. “And then I think we’re more into the Staten Island normal.” He added that he missed traditional names from his own childhood. “Remember when you were growing up, you knew like seven Franks?” Hewitt, who is London-born, has worked as a model and appeared in projects including Teenage Badass, Turnt, and the FX series Dave. The couple have kept much of their relationship private, despite Davidson’s high-profile past. Davidson, best known for his years on Saturday Night Live, has built a career that often blends comedy with personal history, particularly around grief and mental health. With the arrival of Scottie Rose, he now steps into parenthood carrying both that legacy and a name that links the next generation directly to the one he lost.
